ALL TYPES OF STORY TELLERS

Nairobi Central District is one very busy place in Nairobi Town. Day and night it is always busy with different people going about with their activities. Hawkers sell all kinds of products from foodstuff to clothes. People who work going home from the offices and those coming to replace those changing shifts. Some are rushing to town to make deliveries. There is always something to do in town including relaxing in the parks. One evening I was coming from work at around 8:30 pm going towards the railway station to catch a commuter bus home I heard a blasting sound. It was caught with mixed reactions: I was a little scared but seeing that everyone immediately went ahead with what they were doing, I brushed it off thinking it could be a tire bust. Not a minute had passed and there was another one and another one. That is when I saw a police officer chasing a man who had handcuffs on him. "Paw", he fired again in the air. But the man was determined to run for his life. They were ...

A RIDE ON THE MARIAMU AKA BLACK MARIA

Have you ever had a ride on the Mariamu ? Well, I did once. The experience was pleasant. I was strolling on the main road with my one-year-old baby one evening heading home from a local supermarket. They were the only occupants and there was more than enough space for me and my baby. It was warm. They asked if our home was far away and I told them it was a few minutes away. That is when my mind wondered where and how the name Ma...

DIFFERENT MJENGO JOBS WITH NO EXPERIENCE

Kenya as a developing world provides thousands if not millions of job opportunities in the Construction sector. Many amenities are coming up and the main job provider is Real Estate. But, you have to wake up early and prepare for it. Reach the construction site on time to be assigned work or else you will be sent back home if you are late. If you arrived early but didn’t get selected you may rush to the next site to be selected. Unfortunately, many of the construction sites are always packed with these young and elderly job seekers. It does not require any experience to be selected as a casual worker. And some of the job seekers are graduates in different fields. Surprisingly people who work at  Mjei short form for mjengo get paid more than junior office workers if not the same. Their payments range from 500 – 1500 per day and are paid on weekly basis. If they work from Monday to Sunday the lowest gets paid 3500 Kenya Shillings. This means they get roughly 14,000-...
